Five years later, we’ve finally polished off our bottle of Rabbit Hole Boxergrail, the replacement for the one I once accidentally dropped. So, would we buy it again, and do we still feel the same way? Let’s take a look, but first, a quick revisit of our original notes.
Nose: spices, vanilla and butterscotch
Palate: silky, spices, caramel and vanilla
Finish: smooth, spices and light sweetness
ABV: 47.5% | Cost: $55
What I originally loved about this whiskey is that, even at 95% rye, it’s incredibly approachable. It’s light, with a nice sweetness that never gets overwhelming. I loved it then and I still do.
That said, while it’s a great bottle, it’s not one I’d hurry out to replace since we’re enjoying other whiskies right now. If I were choosing another Rabbit Hole, I’d probably go with Dareringer first. Both are great, but Dareringer just edges this one out for me.
Overall, this is a fantastic rye. Approachable despite the high rye content, it’s a great pick even for non-rye fans and at this price, you can’t go wrong.
Cheers!
Note: The contents on my blog are solely my opinion. To me every palate is different! Although I may or may not like a product, I always recommend people to try it and make up their own minds.
