Old Fitzgerald Bottled-In-Bond 7-Years

Old Fitzgerald is a historic brand produced by Heaven Hill Distillery, with roots dating back to 1870. In its early years, it was served exclusively in private clubs, as well as aboard steamships and rail lines.

We recently came across their 7-Year Bottled-in-Bond release and picked up a bottle right away. For those unfamiliar, “Bottled-in-Bond” means the whiskey has been produced and aged according to strict U.S. regulations established by the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897.

This is a wheated bourbon with a mash bill of 68% corn, 20% wheat, and 12% malted barley. Now, let’s get into the notes.

Nose: honey, baking spices, and graham crackers

Palate: creamy, vanilla, cinnamon, light sweetness and touches of leather

Finish: warming, oak, and spices

ABV: 50% | Cost: $60 (what we paid)

This is seriously impressive. No, it’s not a complex whiskey but, this is whiskey done right. It’s creamy, balanced, and incredibly easy to sip, even at 50% ABV. There’s a warming burn, but it feels more like a gentle hug that is never off-putting.

You get a touch of light sweetness, layered with notes of vanilla and cinnamon, along with a subtle hint of leather that works beautifully. The finish leaves a lasting warmth that practically demands another sip.

I’m beyond excited we found this at the price we did, especially since it usually sells for more. I’ve completely fallen for this whiskey, and if you’re into wheated bourbons and spot it at a similar price, it’s absolutely worth grabbing.

Cheers!
