New England Barrel Company 7 Year American Whiskey Toasted French Oak Finish

Hello, Fall! My favorite time of year is here.

Today, I want to revisit a brand I mentioned earlier this month: New England Barrel Company. At the beginning of September, we visited their tasting room, and although I enjoyed all the samples we tried, there was one whiskey we left with that day: this 7-Year American Whiskey Toasted French Oak Finish.

If you want to read more about our visit, you can find my post here. But today, I want to talk about why I enjoyed this expression so much that we ended up buying a bottle.

This expression is the first release in their Toasted Oak Project. It marries 7-year American whiskey with medium-toasted French oak. The mash bill is 84% corn, 8% rye, and 8% malted barley.

Nose: oak, vanilla, and light sweetness

Palate: vanilla, light honey, and oak

Finish: warming spices and light sweetness

ABV 56.7% | Cost: $69.99

This is a robust whiskey that allows itself moments of gentle sweetness. My favorite part of the expression was those hints of sweetness I got throughout the dram. In the opening, I predominantly got vanilla, honey, and oak, followed by warming spices and a lingering light sweetness. To me, this whiskey is beautifully done. Not only does it taste great, but I also think it’s affordable and well worth the price.

What I also love is that if you live in New England, you can easily visit their tasting room and sample before you buy. You can try a variety of expressions, purchase your favorites on-site, or simply figure out what to look for at your local liquor store or next time you visit. Maybe this one won’t be your thing, but you might discover something else you enjoy.
