This past Christmas my fiancé gave me the gift of Flaviar. He got me a year’s membership and the Amador Whiskey Co. Double Barrel was the bottle I chose for my first quarterly selection along with Japanese whisky samples.
Amador Whiskey Co. is located in California and they partner with distillers to created limited edition whiskies. This particular bottle is a blended whiskey. It’s Batch 4, Case No. 6290 and was bottled in January 2019. It is aged in new charred American oak for 5.5 years and then spends another 6 months in medium toast French oak ex-Chardonnay barrels.
The whiskey is bottle at 43.7 abv and although I got it through the membership if you are looking to purchase it retails around $35.
Nose: sweet, oak and vanilla
Palate: spices, vanilla, oak and brown sugar
Finish: smooth and spiced
This is a whiskey that would possibly make an excellent cocktail, on its own it just simply ok. It’s smooth, full of spices and lightly sweet. I’m glad I’ve had the chance to try it but it not something I would go out and purchase on my own, even though it’s affordable.
In my opinion, if it’s a whiskey you don’t have that’s ok, you aren’t missing out on it. Try it at the bar if they have it. You know when we are allowed to go back to one.
Cheers!
P.S.: Once my year’s membership is up with Flaviar, I will share my thoughts, and trust me… I already have a few.
Note: The contents on my blog are solely my opinion. To me every palate is different! Although I may or may not like a product, I always recommend for people to try it and make up their own minds.
