Taconic Bourbon Cream

More whiskey brands are stepping into the Bourbon Cream space, and I’m all for it. The latest one I had the chance to try was Taconic Bourbon Cream. I recently shared my thoughts on their Double Barrel Maple Bourbon, which I really enjoyed, and this bottle proved to be just as impressive. Let’s dive in.

Made with their Dutchess Private Reserve, their Bourbon Cream is then rounded out with vanilla and maple syrup.

Nose: vanilla, caramel and maple

Palate: creamy vanilla, marshmallow, bourbon, and butterscotch

Finish: light bourbon notes and sweetness

ABV: 17.5%

Cost: $30

I really enjoyed this Bourbon Cream, and when compared to Buffalo Trace, it brings something a bit different to the table. The Buffalo Trace version leans more heavily into spice, while this one delivers a balanced sweetness that’s nicely grounded by the bourbon itself, so it never comes across as overly sweet. One thing that really stood out to me is the marshmallow note. It’s the first time I’ve picked that up in a Bourbon Cream, and I’m completely here for it. I always say cinnamon is one of my favorite tasting notes in whiskey, but marshmallow is easily a close second.

Overall, this Bourbon Cream is just well done. I’d happily drink it over ice, on its own, or even poured over ice cream. At around $30, it’s worth picking up a bottle.

Cheers!
