Cotswolds Distillery has partnered with Highgrove, King Charles’s private residence, to create the Highgrove Evergreen Single Malt Whisky—an expression that I believe is a permanent addition to their core range. The barley used is grown on the Highgrove Estate itself, and the whisky is matured in a combination of bourbon and STR red wine casks. But the real question is: is it any good? Let’s get into it.
Nose: light sweetness and fruit
Palate: Oak-forward with fruit, red berries, and gentle spices
Finish: Lightly sweet with a subtle touch of spice
ABV: 46%
Cost: $130 (with a portion of proceeds benefiting The King’s Foundation)
Truthfully, I wasn’t expecting to like this at all—but it genuinely surprised me. It’s lightly sweet, with that sweetness beautifully balanced by warming spice and berry notes derived from the STR casks. This is a well-executed whisky, offering a pleasing level of complexity and refinement. Would I rush out to buy a bottle? Probably not—it’s not something I feel I need on my shelf. That said, it’s undeniably a very good whisky.
Cheers!
