Just like that, September is here. To celebrate the long weekend, I treated myself to a few cocktails—one of them being the Bulleit Whiskey Sour. I think it’s one of their newer releases, but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong. Fun fact: whiskey sours were the first whiskey-based cocktail I ever tried and instantly loved. They were my go-to, back in the day. So, how does this one measure up? Let’s dive in.
Cost Breakdown: I picked up a 375ml bottle (25% ABV) for $10.99. The label says it contains 8.5 servings, which works out to about $1.29 per cocktail—a pretty sweet deal. That said, you’d need to pour very modest servings (with plenty of ice) to actually stretch it to 8.5. Realistically, it all comes down to the hand doing the pouring.
Tasting Notes/Thoughts: This cocktail features Bulleit’s Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, bright lemon, and a touch of honey. The bottle recommends adding egg whites to a shaker for a frothy finish, but I skipped that step. Instead, I chilled the bottle ahead of time and served it over ice with a lemon garnish. The lemon comes through boldly, with the whiskey present but not overpowering. Honey makes a brief appearance right at the start, then quickly fades. The finish is warm and woody—classic bourbon character rounding out the sip.
Is it good? Absolutely. I liked it because it wasn’t overly sweet—so if you’re into sweeter cocktails, this one might not be your vibe. I had two servings and definitely felt it afterward, so sticking to the recommended portion size is probably wise. These are strong! Compared to what you’d pay at a bar, this cocktail is a steal. It’s budget-friendly and tastes great.
Cheers!
