Old Forester Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Bought a mini of this bourbon as I wasn’t sure I was going to like it and I’m very glad I did. Not because it’s a bad bourbon but, because I have plenty of other bourbons in my collection that simply rival this one if not are better.

Nose: vanilla and tobacco
Palate: spices, rye, bitter orange and vanilla
Finish: warming and peppery
ABV: 43%

This bourbon is very spiced and leads more into peppery. I get bitter orange with hints of vanilla. It has a nice warming bite in the end. I did not get any sweetness at all with this dram.

For me, this whiskey has two great things 1. It’s affordable. You can find a 750 ml for about $25-$35 and that is amazing. And 2. This whiskey would be great for cocktails. It’s not a bourbon you’d feel bad using in your Manhattan’s, Old Fashioned and even your Hot Toddy. So, if you are looking to get crafty with your cocktails, here’s a good whiskey option.

Cheers!
