Redwood Empire Emerald Giant Rye Whiskey

Redwood Empire is a Sonoma County, CA, Distillery. This bottle is named after the fastest growing Redwood Tree, the Emerald Giant. For every bottle sold they plant a tree. That’s amazing for the environment but is this juice any good? Truth be told, when I heard about them my first thought was, UGH, another distillery who is probably making crap whiskey. So, I refused to partake. That was until our friend Dan shared his bottle with us and well… I ate crow.

Mash Bill: 95% rye and 5% malt barley

Nose: pepper, cinnamon, and sugar
Palate: pepper, cinnamon, spices with light sweetness
Finish: lightly sweet and spiced
Cost: $35

Boy oh boy, this is good whiskey! I’ve found that within the last couple years I’ve enjoyed rye whiskies less and less but this, it simply blew me away. This rye is approachable and in no way harsh. You get spices and light sweetness in every sip. It’s balanced, smooth and delicious.

This rye has brought me back into the “I don’t hate rye category.” I’ve not had any of their other whiskies but after trying this one you better believe I will be trying their other options. I would highly recommend trying this if you are a fan of rye or not like me. It’s affordable and very easy to drink.

Cheers!

Note: The contents on my blog are solely my opinion. To me every palate is different! Although I may or may not like a product, I always recommend for people to try it and make up their own minds.
