Buffalo Trace went out with a bang last year as they ended 2020 with the release of this Stagg Jr. Batch 15 131.1 Proof. I’m here giving them a standing ovation because wow… this is super tasty.
We were lucky enough to have a friend who gifted us this bottle, I know crazy. The retail price of this bottle should be around $50. Good luck trying to find it for that price or even trying to find it at all as the secondary market strikes again with outrageous prices.
The whisky is aged for around 8 years, and has an abv of 65.55% for all those cask strength lovers.
Nose: vanilla, oak, caramel and cherries
Palate: vanilla, spices, chocolate and cloves
Finish: oak, dark cherry, light smoke, spices and lingering pepper notes at the back of the throat
Holy smokes, this bourbon is AMAZING! If you see this bottle at $50 and you don’t get it, you’re insane. This bourbon is absolutely beautifully made. It’s full of spices, it has light rye sweetness, it is smooth with a light burn, the dark cherry notes dance on your tongue and the pepper notes linger on the back of the throat giving you a nice warming feeling. It’s exactly what a good bourbon should taste like.
For years we were so focused on Scotch Whisky. We had no idea what we were missing in bourbon. This bottle right here represents all we were missing. This is a quality whiskey that is well made, tastes delicious and is bourbon done right.
This is a whiskey worth experiencing if you have the chance to try. It’s worth it!
Cheers!
