Weller Special Reserve Whiskey Review

Hooray! I’ve reached my 300th Blog post. Definitely something to celebrate and I hope to continue to bring you loads more review… now on to this review.

Here is another bottle of whiskey that is hard to find at least for us New Englanders. We bought this whiskey from 58 Wine & Liquor in New York City.

The Special Reserve is a Wheated Bourbon, similar to Weller Antique 107. Special Reserve is bottled at 90 proof or 45% ABV, while the Antique 107 is bottled at 107 proof or 53.5 ABV.

Nose: wood, caramel and honey
Palate: vanilla, butterscotch, wood and honey
Finish: lightly sweet and smooth

If you are a Pappy fan and can’t seem to find it anywhere like the rest of the world, or if you do, you have to sell your soul… well both the Reserve and the Antique are excellent substitutes. The Weller and Pappy mash bills are very similar with the exception that Weller is a tad bit easier to find.

I really loved the Weller Reserve! I’m even going as far to say that I loved it more than the Antique. The Reserve is smooth, lightly sweet, with very little bite. It’s easy to drink and could easily become an everyday sipping whiskey. You know, if the bourbon market hadn’t gone mad and made these bottles rare!

Cheers!

Note: The contents on my blog are solely my opinion. To me every palate is different! Although I may or may not like a product, I always recommend for people to try it and make up their own minds.
