I’ve been on a Smoke Wagon kick lately. This past summer we were able to get our hands on 3 bottles via New York since you can’t seem to find them here is Massachusetts just yet. 2021 hopefully!
This small batch straight bourbon whiskey is composed by blending some younger vintages with their older vintages. It’s a whiskey brand I really enjoy and this bottle was no exception.
Let everyone else hunt Buffalo Trace products this fall. Whiskey geeks will tell you that Aaron, founder and master distiller of Smoke Wagon, is quietly producing some of the best whiskey in the world from his Las Vegas location. Those massive temperature swings in the dessert are producing some unique and delicious whiskey.
Nose: wood, fruit and apricots
Palate: lightly sweet, spices, vanilla and pepper
Finish: fruit, spices and smoothness
What a great dram! It’s balanced, spiced and lightly sweet. It’s also extremely smooth with very little bite.
I enjoyed this whiskey just as much as their Smoke Wagon Straight Bourbon Whiskey. I do like their Uncut Unfiltered as well, but this edges it out ever so slightly. It’s just a smoother whiskey while the Uncut Unfiltered has more of a bite due to the high ABV.
Although all three are great if you are looking for more of an every day sipping whiskey, this one would be the one you should try. It’s delicious!
Cheers
