Christmas week is finally here! Every year, as November fades into December, we head to Cape Cod for our annual Friendsgiving—a tradition filled with laughter, great food, and even better drinks. This year, our friends surprised us with some incredible cocktails, and one bottle stood out: Laird’s Blended Applejack. I had never heard of this brand before, so naturally, I had to ask—was it any good? Let’s find out.
According to Laird’s website, Applejack—often called “America’s First Spirit”—has been part of American culture since before independence. The Laird family has been producing Applejack in New Jersey since 1698, with the first recorded commercial transaction appearing in their family ledger in 1780. This spirit is a blend of apple brandy and grain spirits, essentially making it an apple-based whiskey.
Nose: apples and vanilla
Palate: caramel, vanilla and spices
Finish: tart and zesty
Cost: $20-$25
ABV: 40%
I didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I did! Our friend mixed an Old Fashioned with Laird’s, and it was absolutely delicious. The apple notes tasted authentic—not artificial or overly sweet—and had a refreshing, zesty balance. It’s a versatile spirit that works beautifully in cocktails, especially an Old Fashioned. If you love mixing drinks, this will make a great addition to your bar.
May your holiday week be nothing short of amazing!
Cheers!
