Dark Arts Toasted Mizunara Bourbon

One of my current favorite bourbon brands is Dark Arts Ambura Oak Stave Finished, Small Batch Rye. They had me at cinnamon and just when I thought they couldn’t top that, Dark Arts Toasted Mizunara Bourbon entered the chat. Let’s get right into this.

This whiskey has a mash bill of 64% corn, 24% rye, and 12% malted barley. It is finished in rare toasted Mizunara oak and bottled at cask strength.

Nose: toasted oak, vanilla and berries
Palate: cookies, gingerbread, baking spices and hints of lemon
Finish: nutmeg, cinnamon and toffee
ABV: 50%
Cost: $60-$80

This whiskey is like a cookie in a bottle. While the Ambura expression was cinnamon forward, in this one, the cinnamon is more subtle. It blends harmoniously with other baking spices, and the addition of lemon adds a refreshing zest to the flavor. The balance of these notes is exceptional, and the cask strength is so well integrated that it goes unnoticed. It offers a gentle sweetness, making it smooth, easy to drink, and truly delightful. This brand has once again let me in awe. This is a beautifully made whiskey that I absolutely love.

Cheers!
