I’ve always been a Scotch Whisky gal but within the last two years I’ve embarked on a mission to try more bourbon. In that amount of time I’ve had duds, whiskies that go from OK to good, some even great. Few have stopped me on my tracks, this brand was one of them.
2XO is a brand from American whiskey blender Dixon Dedman. During the tasting event I attended I had the opportunity to sample American Oak, Innkeeper Blend and Tribute Blend. There are times I’ve sampled whiskies from a brand and usually 1 of 3 are good. In this case, all three were outstanding.
Innkeeper Blend
Nose: cinnamon, vanilla and oak
Palate: vanilla, caramel, sugar and cherry
Finish: vanilla, oak, and spices
ABV: 52%
Cost: $99
Notes: this bourbon is rich and light sweet with balanced notes of spices. Even though it’s at cask strength it’s very easy to drink with loads of caramel, sugar and the nice subtle cherry notes.
American Oak
Nose: vanilla, caramel and oak
Palate: caramel, butterscotch, vanilla and nutty
Finish: vanilla and pepper
ABV: 46%
Cost: $40-$45
Notes: this is a smooth, delicious and affordable offering. Easy to drink, well rounded with heavier notes of vanilla and light pepper.
Tribute Blend
Nose: vanilla, zest, and pepper
Palate: caramel, vanilla and cinnamon
Finish: spices, oak, and pepper
ABV: 52%
Cost: $90
Notes: this one is also well rounded with notes of oak, vanilla, light sweetness, and balanced notes of pepper. It’s smooth, robust, and easy to drink despite the ABV.
I’m completely impressed with this brand. I loved all three and yes, that completely shocked me. I honestly can’t wait to taste more of their offerings. What Dedman is doing is completely revolutionary and he’s absolutely changing the industry. Having great products right of the gate for me is completely hard to do, but they’ve done it.
All three of these whiskies are fabulous but I’m going to suggest you go and try the American Oak. It’s a delicious, quality product being sold at the steal price of around $45, you can’t go wrong with that.
Cheers!
Note: The contents on my blog are solely my opinion. To me every palate is different! Although I may or may not like a product, I always recommend for people to try it and make up their own minds.
