Parker’s Heritage Collection 16th Edition Double Barrel Blend

No, we’ve not opened the bottle we own but, thanks to fellow Instagrammer Stirred and Boozy who shared where we could sample, we were able to taste this whiskey at Daiquiris and Daisies at High Street Place here in Boston. Our bartender Joe was phenomenal and extremely knowledgeable about whiskey. We paid $36 for a 2oz pour. The bottle we purchased at NH State Liquor was $174.

This whiskey is bottled at 66.1 ABV and here’s some information on the label. The 16th edition consists of 67% 13-year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey that has been double barreled and then blended post aging with 33% 15-year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

Nose: oak, caramel, and spices
Palate: spices, burnt caramel and oak
Finish: pepper, spices, and chocolate

Holy guacamole! This whiskey is strong. And yes, I’m aware it’s 66.1% ABV but, I’ve had whiskies with a similar ABV that don’t taste as strong. After recovering from the strength and punch to the face I got loads of burnt caramel and spices, but pepper was the predominant ending note for me. Truthfully, there is nothing sweet about this whiskey unless you open those notes of chocolate and light sweetness with a splash of water.

This whiskey is not for everyone. It’s an absolute slow sipper. It took me a while to drink, and I think that is what I enjoyed the most. Whiskies are meant to be savored and appreciated. This is truly one of those whiskies.

Cheers!
