Well, it’s that time of year, Glenmorangie “A Tale of” series is showing up on shelves. This year they’re taking a woodland approach. Think gin in the form of whisky. Glenmorangie latest tale is, A Tale of The Forest which follows, A Tale of Winter which followed A Tale of Cake.
This is Glenmorangie’s first whisky crafted from barley kilned and woodland botanicals.
Nose: pine, juniper and light smoke
Palate: bitter, oranges and licorice
Finish: bitter, oak and lemon
ABV: 46%
Cost: $99 (what we paid)
I sampled this whisky alongside Cake and Winter, Cake is still hands down my favorite of the three (you can find those reviews here on Instagram or my blog). A Tale of Forest is raw, it’s extremely herbal with pronounced notes of bitterness and oranges. Not my favorite but I will say that it slightly edges out A Tale of Winter.
Truthfully, I don’t think this is going to be a whisky for everyone. If you like gin, then you’ll love this whisky. If you aren’t into herbal spirits, you’ll most certainly hate this one. It’s a whisky I will use in cocktails, but it won’t be a daily sipper.
So, is this something you need? Nope! Unless you like gin and want to branch out, walk away and save your money. Cake is still by far the best one they’ve made. If you can find that one, it’s worth it, this one at $100 is not in my opinion.
Cheers!
Note: The contents on my blog are solely my opinion. To me every palate is different! Although I may or may not like a product, I always recommend for people to try it and make up their own minds.
