Now here’s a bottle that’s hard to miss if you’re perusing your local liquor store shelves. It screams to pick me up and with the warmer temps just around the corner, who doesn’t want a ready-made cocktail.
Using their own whiskey, Bulleit now offers two ready-made cocktails. This Old Fashion and a Manhattan Cocktail (in a bright green bottle) that I must have missed locating in the store. The Old Fashion is made with their Kentucky Straight Bourbon and Orange Bitters.
Nose: oranges, sweetness, and bitters
Palate: sweetness, rye, spices, and oranges
Finish: spices, and light sweetness
Cost: $21.50 (375 ml) what we paid
ABV: 37.5%
The first thing you get hit with is sweetness. Followed by notes of orange peels and bitters. It smooths out at the end with spiced notes and sweetness.
To be honest, it was better than I thought it would be. I think that most ready to drink cocktails always lean on the sweeter side. This one does have its sweet moments but it doesn’t overpower the cocktail. You still get hit with spices, bitters and you do get to taste the whiskey.
If you want to be your own bartender without having to buy all the extra ingredients, this is actually a pretty good choice. It’s one of the better ready-made cocktails we’ve had to date.
Cheers!
