St. Patrick’s Day is now only three days away and West Cork is one of my favorite affordable Irish Whiskey brands. You can’t beat the taste, price, and quality. This barrel proof was no exception if you can handle a strong whiskey.
Nose: fruit, malt, and sweetness
Palate: malt, oranges, and fruit
Finish: fruity and sweet with a bite
ABV: 62%
Cost: $44.99 (what we paid)
Mash Bill: 66% grain and 35% malt
Let me be honest, this whiskey is not for the faint of heart. If you don’t like strong whiskies, you are not going to like this. But, if you do, man this whiskey is delicious. Yes, it beats you up quite a bit but, the fruit and sweet notes come to the rescue and gives you a delicious and balanced mouthfeel. At the end of your tasting this whiskey simply hugs your ribs.
You’ll always find a high proof whiskey on our shelf. I love pouring a strong dram on those occasions when we have a heavy meal. It helps digest the food better, at least for us it does.
What I love more than the whiskey is how affordable it is. A 62% whiskey for around $40 is an absolute steal. You can’t go wrong here and if you are looking to try something new this is a great option. But if you don’t like whiskies this strong then look for their 8-Year small batch. That one is kinder not only on your throat but also on your wallet and is equally as delicious.
Cheers!
