Grand Old Parr 18-Year

Old Parr is a blended Scotch whisky that is named after Thomas Parr who was said to be England’s longest living man. Parr died in 1635 at the age 152.

It wasn’t until very recently that Old Parr announced this 18-Year expression would be a permanent addition to their range. For this expression, they use malts from Cragganmore to create its blend.

I’m originally from Puerto Rico so I was surprised to learn that Latin America and the Caribbean account for a majority of Old Parr global sales. Now truth be told, that was the main reason I purchased this bottle. Being Caribbean born, I wanted to see what this whisky was all about.

Nose: oak, malt, and honey
Palate: fruit, cherries, vanilla, spices, and smoke
Finish: smooth and spiced
Cost: $69.99
ABV: 40%

This is an easy to drink whisky that is smooth, spiced and light. I have truly come to appreciate whiskies with lower ABV and this one was no exception. You get loads of vanilla and cherry, but you also get a mouthful of spices and light sweetness.

I’ve never tried the Old Parr 12-Year, but I can tell you this 18-Year is delicious. It’s a whisky you can easily transition from just drinking on its own to making an amazing cocktail. I’m glad I purchased it as it will easily be a go to.

Cheers!
