The snow and bitter cold has arrived here in Boston; winter is truly upon us. To celebrate the cold weather, Glenmorangie launched A Tale of Winter, giving us all the warm and cozy feels.
A Tale of Winter is a 13-year single malt finished in Marsala wine casks from Sicily. The brightly colored bottle is reminiscent of A Tale of Cake, which I was a fan off.
Nose: Marsala, oranges and honey
Palate: cocoa, toffee and nuts
Finish: lightly sweet, cloves and cinnamon
Cost: $99.99 (what I paid)
If you’re wondering, is this like A Tale of Cake? I’m here to tell you it’s not. I tasted both side by side and they’re very different. The winter whisky evokes the feeling of warmth, a nice fire and it hugs your ribs. It truly does feel like winter in a glass. Cake on the other hand is very much like a sweet party in your mouth.
Personally, I enjoyed A Tale of Winter but, if I had to choose one or the other I would chose A Tale of Cake. Let me explain myself, I can look at my whisky collection and see about 5 whiskies that not only remind me of winter but taste like it as well. I have plenty of whiskies that are just too similar to it. I can’t say the same about A Tale of Cake.
Don’t get me wrong it’s good, but it isn’t unique. If you don’t have any winter whiskies or are looking to gift a whisky that gives them a warm hug, this would be the perfect addition.
Cheers!
