I’m back and officially a married woman. That’s Mrs. Wench to you from now on. For our special day we wanted to get a special whisky to share with our wedding party and we wanted it to be an Islay Whisky. In speaking with Ryan Maloney from Julio’s Liquor he mention he had a bottle of the Lock & Key Barrel Select Laphroaig 2005 Vintage Cask PX, I Love You and we were sold.

The PX, I Love You was bottled on 6-10-19 and distilled in 2005. It is Cask No. 3 with an abv of 54.4%. It is matured in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels for 4.5 years and then first-fill PX Hogsheads for 9.5 years.

Nose: salt, peat and leather
Palate: sweetness, licorice, marmalade and smoke
Finish: smooth and smokey
Cost: $300

We’re major Islay whisky fans and this one didn’t disappoint. It’s a whisky a true peat smoke lovers will enjoy. It starts off sweet but then you get hit with notes of licorice and that signature peat smoke. If you add a few drops of water that opens the whisky up to more sweetness and mellows out the notes of peat.

Yes, $300 is quite a lot but we wanted something different to help celebrate our big day. I honestly don’t know if there are any more bottles of these left but we were very happy with our purchase. It’s a whisky we will hold on to enjoy on our anniversary. It definitely a whisky we will always remember.
