I’ve always been a huge fan of Highland Park. So much so that when we visited Scotland about three years ago, this was one of the distilleries we visited.

This Edition No. 1 is the first in a new series from Highland Park. The whisky is predominantly matured in sherry seasoned American oak casks (of different ages) and the whisky is hand selected by Master Whisky Maker, Gordon Motion.

Nose: vanilla, peat and spices
Palate: fruit, citrus, lightly sweet with spices
Finish: fruit and peat
ABV: 63.3%

The packaging this bottle came in indicates that this is a whisky that is Robust & Intense. I feel that’s the best way to describe this whisky. Man it’s intense and not for the faint of heart. It mimics the pure rawness of the environment it was matured in. The beautiful Orkney Islands.

This is a very bold whisky! I actually had to search for the peat as it’s a note you don’t get til the very end. I would say that this is a whisky that beats you up a bit but not to the point where you’d want to stop drinking it.

In my honest opinion, I’ve had better from Highland Park and, I truly believe that not everyone will enjoy this whisky. With that said I’m still going to enjoy this bottle.
