We have officially reached the type of weather were a nice smoky whisky is deliciously warming. On a recent trip to Vermont we stopped in New Hampshire and picked up a bottle of Laphroaig Select. We picked it up not only because it was a smoky whisky but also because the price was right.
Here is a quick Monday review on Laphroaig Select.
The Select is composed of whiskies from three different casks which are their Quarter Cask, PX Cask and Triple Wood (Oloroso sherry) and they finish it off with the addition of 10 Year Old whisky.
Tasting Notes
Nose: peat, fruit and citrus
Palate: peat, slight sweetness and spices
Finish: subtle peat finish
Cost: $35-$40 (depending on where you buy)
This is an easy to drink whisky. There is a softness to the peat and it is slightly sweet. If you are expecting big peat, you will be disappointed as, you are not going to get that with this dram. The peat is not so much in your face and there is a perfect balance of smoke and sweet.
Personally I enjoyed this whisky because it wasn’t extremely peaty. This is a whisky for those who like peat to be on the milder. If that is you then I definitely recommend trying.
Cheers!
