In honor of the final season of Game of Thrones, Johnnie Walker released a limited-edition new blend that celebrates the HBO acclaimed series. So, if you have someone in your life that not only loves GOT but also Johnnie Walker, then you’ve found the perfect holiday gift for them.
Tasting Notes
Nose: vanilla, fruit and spices
Palate: oak, caramel, vanilla and berries
Finish: oak and spices
The bottle packaging is beautiful! The white wrap around the bottle is very eye catching and features Johnnie Walker as a white walker. For an added bonus, the packaging uses thermochromic ink that when frozen reveals a message to fans. A simple little feature that absolutely excited me, so last night I put it to the test. It took about 2 hours in my freezer, if not a little less, for the message to reveal itself. The message is:
This whisky is recommended to be served ice-cold, but I wanted to taste it both cold and at room temperature to see if there was a difference. Interestingly enough, there is a difference. The whisky at room is quite uninspiring while when served cold, the notes are more profound, and the whisky has a nice silky texture. There is a slight sweetness to this blend and the cold helps make the whisky smoother.
I would agree that this whisky is best served cold. I loved the bottle and I will continue to enjoy cold but for those of you wondering if this is a whisky you need in your life, I’d say no. It is fun to have and as a fan of GOT I love the idea behind it but, this whisky will not blow you away. The bottle ranges around $39-$50. I bought mine at $39 and it would make a nice gift for GOT/Johnnie Walker fans, but if you do miss this limited-edition bottle there is nothing to worry about because there are far better Johnnie Walker editions out there than this one.
Cheers!
