Jura Bourbon Cask

Curious about what happened to Jura Journey? It’s been replaced by Jura Bourbon Cask, a low-ABV expression that now serves as the gateway to the Jura range. But how does it measure up? Let’s dive in and find out.

Nose: vanilla, coconut and light peat

Palate: fruits, toffee, coconut and vanilla

Finish: fruity with notes of cinnamon, pepper and faint smoke

ABV: 40%

Cost: $35

Let’s set expectations—this is truly an introductory whisky. If you’re looking for bold complexity or heavy peat, this won’t be your dram. But not every whisky needs to be intense to be enjoyable. I appreciate this one for its simplicity: it’s easy to drink, budget-friendly, and refreshingly unpretentious.

There’s no peat punch here—just a gentle, balanced smokiness that lingers nicely. The coconut note is spot-on, adding a subtle richness without tipping into tropical territory. You’ll also find a pleasant mix of baking spices like vanilla and cinnamon, alongside soft fruit notes. It’s a no-fuss whisky—ideal for beginners to Scotch or anyone looking to ease into the Jura range. Personally? I liked it enough to buy a bottle.

Cheers!
