I picked up this whiskey alongside the Lonehand Tennessee Sour Mash Whiskey. Like Ellington Reserve Apple Flavored Whiskey, it’s produced by United States Distilled Products Co. in Princeton, Minnesota. So, how does the King’s Creek expression stack up against Lonehand? Let’s find out. Keep reading.
Nose: oak, banana and vanilla
Palate: vanilla, baking spices and oak
Finish: vanilla and oak
ABV: 40%
Cost: $1.49 (what we paid for a 50ml bottle; 750ml $20.99)
The most notable advantage of this whiskey is its price point. Flavor-wise, it’s not the worst I’ve ever tried, but I struggled to finish it. Despite its low ABV, it came across as surprisingly harsh and lacked the smoothness I’d hoped for. In comparison, Lonehand is clearly better in my opinion. Lonehand is smooth and delivers that classic whiskey taste. This one, does not. If you’re deciding between the two, I’d recommend going with Lonehand. That said, if you’re simply looking for a budget-friendly whiskey to mix into cocktails, this one might do the trick.
Cheers!
