Dalmore has long been one of my favorite whisky brands, and a few months ago I had the pleasure of sampling the Dalmore Select Edition 2006. Released annually, this special edition captures the unique character of a particular year at the Dalmore distillery. The 2006 expression is aged for 18 years and matured in a combination of American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, hand-selected Matusalem, and Amoroso sherry casks, resulting in a rich and complex profile.
Nose: wood, figs and honey
Palate: light sweetness, fruit and chocolate
Finish: sherry, fruit and wood
ABV: 47.2%
Cost: $450-$500
I’ll be honest—I really enjoyed this expression. It’s smooth, subtly sweet, and beautifully balanced, with elegant notes of fruit and chocolate. However, what I didn’t love was the price. It’s steep—so much so that I wouldn’t consider purchasing it myself. If you’re looking to enjoy Dalmore without breaking the bank, there are excellent alternatives, like the 12 Year Sherry Cask, which offers great flavor at a far more approachable price point. So, while this edition is undeniably delicious, it’s not an essential addition to your shelf at this cost.
Cheers!
