I’ll admit it – Instagram ads got me. I ended up buying the Craftmix Black Cherry Old Fashioned cocktail packets. We spent $14.99 for a packet of 12, which breaks down to about $1.25 (alcohol not included).
If you are not familiar, these are cocktail or mocktail packets that you can mix with either alcohol or still/sparkling water. I was drawn to them because they are low in sugar – and that’s a big win in my book. So, let’s dive into the cocktail I made and what I thought of it.
Recipe:
- 1 Craftmix Black Cherry Old Fashioned packet
- 1.5 oz Penelope Barrel Strength Bourbon
- Blueberry Lemonade Polar Spring Seltzer
- Ice
- Dehydrated Orange (optional)
Instructions: pour the packet into your glass, add the bourbon, and stir well. Then, drop in ice, top it off with the seltzer, and finish with your garnish of choice.
Does it taste like a classic Old Fashioned? Not at all. But honestly, that didn’t matter one bit. This mix made an incredibly delicious cocktail – so good, I didn’t even care that it strayed from tradition. If you are expecting a true Old Fashioned from these, you’ll be disappointed. But if you go in with an open mind, you’ll find a flavorful, easy-to-make drink that’s just plain enjoyable. It’s not authentic, but it is tasty.
I’ve also tried Mango Margarita and Passionfruit Paloma, and so far, the Old Fashioned is my favorite. Do you need these? Definitely not. But I’ve really been enjoying them, and I’m very happy with my purchase. If you are looking for a low sugar cocktail mix, these are it. They make crafting a cocktail incredibly easy – and they taste great.
Cheers!
