Now this is cask strength at its best. This guy right here is 65.45% if you know whiskey then you know what that means. If you don’t know, be prepared to grow some chest hair, maybe even a beard all while screaming, hot dang!
OK, I’m exaggerating, but this whiskey is powerful. Before I even sipped, my thoughts were, not going to like it. I’m over rye!!! Thoughts afterwards, dang, this is great rye whiskey.
This whiskey is named after the New Orleans bartender who first used rye whiskey in a Sazerac cocktail. It’s now produced by Buffalo Trace for its antique collection.
Nose: cinnamon, oranges, and anise
Palate: spices, orange peel and chocolate
Finish: cinnamon, oranges, and light sweetness
Cost: $100
This whiskey is not going to be for everybody. It’s strong, slightly bitter and has very little sweetness. With that said, I kept going back for more. There’s something to be said about a whiskey that keeps you drinking. It’s a slow sipper that would be amazing in a cocktail. We don’t own a bottle but got to sample it at Daiquiris & Daisies here in Boston.
Do you need a bottle, no, because prices are astronomical if you can find it. But, if you have a chance to sample, like we did, I’d said it’s worth it.
Cheers!
