Here’s another whiskey I had a chance to try in Virginia thanks to our friend Kevin. We spent an evening sampling 4-5 whiskies. What I truly enjoyed the most weren’t the whiskies we drank but the laughs and memories we created. The minute friends gather around a bottle you know it’s going to be a great night. Thank you, Kevin!
This Bottle-in-Bond whiskey is aged for 7-years, and it pays tribute to the early days of the Heaven Hill distillery back in 1939. Bottle-in-Bond corresponds to the US Standards laid out in the Bottle-in-Bond Act of 1897. It ensures that the whiskey has been aged and bottled according to a set of legal regulations.
Nose: vanilla, caramel, and sweetness
Palate: vanilla, spices, oak and caramel
Finish: lightly sweet and spiced
Cost: $40 MSRP
ABV: 50%
The opening of this whiskey is strong. You get hit with that proof instantly but just as quickly as it hits you, it quickly mellows down with notes of baking spices and light sweet notes of caramel. It warms you up and hugs you in all the right places. It’s a darn good dram and personally I loved it. So, if you can find it at this price, it is well worth it.
Cheers!
