I.W. Harper 15 Year

I had the opportunity to try this when we were down in Virginia. Our friend Jeff bought it and kindly shared some with us.

The story of I.W. Harper began in 1848 when the founder Isaac Wolfe came to America from Germany with $4 in his pocket. And then, it wasn’t till 1872 when the first I.W. Harper whiskey began to be produced. After many years of absence, the brand was reintroduced in the US in 2015.

Nose: fruit, vanilla and oak
Palate: caramel, spices, vanilla, and fruit
Finish: oak and vanilla
ABV: 43%
Cost: $89 (depending on where you buy)

This whiskey is warming, smooth, spiced and lightly sweet. Will it blow you away, no, it won’t but, this is a well-rounded dram with a low ABV which makes it easy to drink. It’s way better than I expected it to be. Truthfully, the drinkability of the whiskey is what I enjoyed the most as it can be an everyday sipper. It’s not something you need on your shelves, but it is a good whiskey.

Cheers!
