Now here’s a non-alcoholic Elijah Craig product I came across by chance. This little bottle which cost me just around $4, is simply a syrup to make an Old Fashion with. Unlike ready-made cocktails, you need to have a whiskey to use this one with. The bottle indicates it was specifically to highlight the notes of Elijah Craig Small Batch. I’m sure that’s true and it will taste great with the Small Batch but I’m also certain this will also work well with any other bourbon you have handy.
The instructions call for a rocks glass with ice, add 2 oz (1/4) Elijah Craig Small Batch and .5 oz (1 tablespoon) of the syrup. Stir till well chilled, garnish with orange peel and cherry.
I had all the ingredients handy, minus the cherry. This syrup tastes great! It’s a very simple way to make an Old Fashioned at home. What I enjoyed the most is that although it calls for .5 oz of syrup you can add however much you’d like to make it more to your liking. Personally, I found the .5 oz pour was slightly too sweet for me, but I added just a little less than that and it was perfect.
With ready-made cocktails you can’t control the sweetness or the taste with this you can. You are your own bartender and I love it. It makes for a great cocktail!
Cheers!
