Women Who Whiskey – Bourbon/Whiskey

Whiskey, cars and BBQ are things that simply seem to go together. Fitting enough, that was the theme of this past weekend’s Women Who Whiskey event. And, the whiskey gals were gracious enough to extend the invite to the fellas, so I was able to bring my guy along.

If you aren’t familiar with the club, it’s a club started in New York by Julia Ritz Toffoli. Toffoli’s idea was to create an environment where women can gather, network and talk about whiskey, as well as other strong spirits. Although they started small, Women Who Whiskey now has chapters not only around the country but also around the world. For a female wanting to learn more about whiskey and other spirits this is an amazing club. You can check out their website here for more information on events near you.

European Auto Solutions was the host of the event, up in Waltham, MA. There were about 50 or more people in attendance and the three whiskies featured were: Oregon Spirit Distillers Straight America Wheat Whiskey, Virginia Distillery CO. Cider Cask Finished Virginia Highland Whiskey and Russell’s Reserve 10-year.

I won’t talk about all three of the whiskies in this blog, but I will talk about the one that surprised me and that was the Virginia Distillery Cider Cask Finished Virginia Highland Whiskey. This whiskey is made from 100% barley and they marry whisky from Scotland with their own whisky. The whisky is then finished in cider casks from Virginia producers.

Tasting Notes

Nose: apple, vanilla and oak

Palate: spice, caramel, oak and cider

Finish: creamy and smooth

The Women Who Whiskey gals described this as autumn in a glass and I couldn’t have agreed more. It is smooth, had hints of sweetness and it was filled with spice. This was one of the whiskies I enjoyed the most that night. It perfectly complimented the BBQ at the event.

There was something quite refreshing about this whisky. It had a crisp delicious taste that I will definitely have again. Before this, I had never tasted any of their products but, I will certainly will now.

This is one of the great things about these events, you get a chance to try great products while also meeting some great people. If you’ve never attended an event I definitely recommend going to one. Although guys were extended an invite to this particular event that is not always the case. It’s a club for women, so don’t be afraid to attend. You will get a chance to meet some other lovely ladies who also enjoy drinking whiskey.

Cheers!

Note: The contents on my blog are solely my opinion. To me every palate is different! Although I may or may not like a product, I always recommend for people to try it and make up their own minds.
