This blog post simply couldn’t wait till Monday. We recently had a dram of Macallan’s Edition No. 4th and three letters come to mind, WOW. It is by far one of the better whiskies we’ve tried this year and I had to share it with all of you as the holiday season approaches.
This whisky is so good that we ran to buy a bottle and thinking about it… we should probably buy another before it’s gone.
For those that aren’t aware of this range, it’s an annual series of limited release whiskies that features Macallan’s approach to whisky making and details their creation. You can read more about it on their website here.
No. 4 is aged in a combination of 7 different casks selected by Macallan Master Distiller Nick Savage. Let me be honest, I didn’t taste the previous editions, so I can’t compare them to this one, but what I can tell you is that this edition is absolutely amazing.
Tasting Notes
Nose: honey, apple, wood and nutmeg
Palate: nutmeg, vanilla, cloves and wood
Finish: oaky and sweet
I’ll level with you, Macallan is not a whisky I normally reach for. This is why I’m so excited about this product. No. 4 is excellent! It’s also quite affordable, when it comes to Macallan. Bottles ranges at about $99.
This whisky completely blew me away, and it surpassed all of my expectations. It is complex, smooth, full of spices but with a lovely oak and sweet finish. No. 4 is whisky craftsmanship at its best and I highly recommend trying a dram.
If you are fan of Macallan and haven’t tried this, you should, as it’s a limited release. We are certainly hoping to go back to get another bottle.
Cheers!
Note: The contents on my blog are solely my opinion. To me every palate is different! Although I may or may not like a product, I always recommend for people to try it and make up their own minds.
