As there will only be 12 days till Christmas after today, I was going to load my gift guide post however, I could not very well do that before posting a write up about The Irishman Founders Reserve. The reason being, well… spoiler alert, it made my gift guide and I just had to write about it first.
The Irishman is an Irish whiskey created by Bernard and Rosemary Walsh. It all began in 1999 with their idea of creating an Irish Cream for their Irish coffees. It was not till 2007 that their released their first Single Malt. Looking at them now, aside from their Irish Creams their range currently consist of: The Irishman Single Malt; The Irishman Founders Reserve; The Irishman 12 Year-Old Single Malt and The Irishman Cask Strength.
I purchased this whiskey this past weekend at a liquor store I paid $34 and change for it. I was very happy with that price and even the guy at the Liquor store was saying that their prices were the lowest, I can now for certain say that his statement is not true. The same day we went to Wegmans to shop and they not only carried The Irishman Founders Reserve but they also carried it at a lower cost of $26 and change. Yes, that is only about $8 more but during the holiday season when you have tons of gift to purchase an $8 savings is good. So if you have a Wegmans near you, you can always look for it there.
This whiskey is a blend of two different styles of whiskeys, Single Malt (70%) and Single Pot Still (30%). It is tripled distilled and matured in Bourbon Casks.
If you are a fan of Irish whiskey and have never tried The Irishman, I don’t know what you are waiting for. I mean I was shocked at myself for not having tried it before this weekend. This is quality whiskey sold at a very low cost.
Tasting Notes
Nose: sweet with notes of vanilla and spices
Palate: bourbon oak, spices and slightly sweet with notes of caramel
Finish: smooth with ending notes of butterscotch
This whiskey is amazing! I love the slight hints of sweetness I go through the dram and it is truly smooth from start to finish. It is also very drinkable and I can see anyone drinking this whiskey from a connoisseur to an amateur drinker. There is balance in a dram and the single malt marries very well with the single pot still.
I was truly blown away with this whiskey not only because of the cost but the taste and the quality is far superior to many other whiskeys out there. I definitely think this is a must try if you come across it. I highly recommend trying.
Cheers!
PS: My gift guide will be up between tomorrow and Wednesday.
Note: The contents on my blog are solely my opinion. To me every palate is different! Although I may or may not like a product, I always recommend for people to try it and make up their own minds.
