And with that, 2025 is nearly behind us. This is my last review of the year, and I can’t wait to see what 2026 holds for us all. This year kept us closer to home, with fewer trips than usual, but that’s something we plan to change in 2026. Our goal is to explore more destinations, and one of our favorite parts of international travel is discovering whiskies that are only available in duty-free shops. Luckily, we got the chance to sample a few—thanks to people who had them—without hopping on a plane ourselves. Let’s find out if they are worth traveling for!
Islanders’ Expression 03 (40% ABV): On the nose, you’ll find fruit and spice notes. The palate offers layers of vanilla, fruit, and caramel, with the Cabernet Sauvignon cask finish amplifying the fruity character. It’s light and easy to drink, with peat smoke that’s subtle and never overpowering. Overall, a well-balanced dram.
The Road (43.6% ABV): On the nose, expect nutty and fruity aromas. The palate brings cinnamon, dried fruit, and a touch of sweetness, with nutty undertones. Finished in Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, this dram leans simple—fruity with a hint of smoke on the finish. Good overall, but nothing extraordinary.
Perspective No. 01 (46.5% ABV): The nose offers fruit, caramel, and toffee, while the palate brings honey, fruit, and warm spices. Finished in sherry casks, this expression carries the highest ABV of the lineup, giving it a noticeable bite. Smoke is minimal, which may appeal to those who prefer non-peat styles. Overall, a solid dram—well-made, though not groundbreaking.
The peat smoke in all three expressions is very subtle, making them more approachable for a wider audience. Overall, each one is solid and enjoyable, but none are so exceptional that I’d go out of my way—or travel—to get them.
Cheers!
Note: The contents on my blog are solely my opinion. To me every palate is different! Although I may or may not like a product, I always recommend people to try it and make up their own minds.
