Ellington Reserve Apple Flavored Whiskey

Apple picking season is here, and this Ellington Reserve Apple Flavored Whiskey caught my eye. Let’s see if it’s ripe for the sipping.

Although this whiskey is marketed as Canadian, it’s actually produced by United States Distilled Products Co. in Princeton, Minnesota. From what I could find, it’s likely a blend sourced from Canada. If anyone has more details, feel free to drop them in the comments!

Nose: green apple, vanilla and caramel

Palate: apples, vanilla and syrupy

Finish: very sweet

ABV: 35%

Cost: $1.49 (what we paid for a 50ml bottle. 750 ml goes for $17.99)

Straight up? It’s a no, for me. But in a cocktail? Absolutely. The apple note is strong, but the sweetness is intense—almost syrupy. It’s not something I’d sip neat or on the rocks. But in a cocktail, you’ve got room to play and balance it out. This is more for those who enjoy sweet, liqueur-style spirits than classic whiskey.

Cheers!
