As a devoted fan of Compass Box, I am excited to share my thoughts on two more intriguing expressions – Nectarosity and Crimson Casks. Let’s dive in!
Nectarosity
Nose: honey and fruit
Palate: vanilla, toffee and fruit
Finish: Sweet with hints of cinnamon and vanilla
ABV: 46%
Cost: $60
Crimson Casks
Nose: spices, fruit and chocolate
Palate: jam, cherry, spices and toffee
Finish: light sweetness and oak
ABV: 46%
Cost: $70
These two expressions are quite distinct. Nectarosity is lighter and sweeter but also comes across as more youthful in character. Crimson Casks, while not necessarily bolder in flavor, leans more heavily into the spice and dark fruit notes – likely a result of its sherry cask influence. It’s also smoother than Nectarosity, which I attribute to the latter’s younger profile.
Are these bad? No, at all. Do you need them? No, really. These are decent whiskies, but they don’t leave a last expression, to me at least. Both lean toward the sweeter side, and while they are enjoyable, I find them a bit overpriced for what they offer. If they were priced a bit lower, then maybe. That said, they don’t surpass Compass Box Orchard House Blended Malt Scotch Whisky – now that’s an expression worth your attention, especially during the warmer months. If you are exploring Compass Box, I’d suggest starting there.
Cheers!
