Last week, I shared my thoughts on a German whisky brand, Nassau. Today, we’re shifting focus to France with a look at Moon Harbour, a distinctive French whisky. Until now, the only French whisky I’d tried was Brenne. Moon Harbour is crafted in Bordeaux and takes its name from the iconic crescent-shaped moon formed by the Garonne River at the city’s entrance – a nod to both its heritage and location.
Nose: oranges, oak and cinnamon
Palate: sweet, spices and vanilla
Finish: sweet and oaky
ABV: 45.8%
Cost: $60-$70
To be honest, I preferred this whisky over Nassau – though only by a small margin. It’s noticeably sweeter and a touch smoother, but for my palate, it leans a bit too much on the sweet side. That said, I do appreciate Moon Harbour’s use of various wine casks, which adds an interesting dimension to their approach. I’d like to explore more of their expressions before forming a final opinion on the brand. As for this bottle, it didn’t quite win me over. If I had to choose between this and Brenne, Brenne still holds the edge for me.
Cheers!
Note: The contents on my blog are solely my opinion. To me every palate is different! Although I may or may not like a product, I always recommend for people to try it and make up their own minds.
