Now here is a distillery that has truly impressed me, led by the experienced Master Distiller Billy Walker, who has over 50 years of industry expertise. GlenAllachie has transitioned from being solely a component for premium blends to taking center stage as a single malt whisky brand. This 12-year expression is part of their core collection and has been matured in a combination of oak and Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks.
Nose: cinnamon, honey and coffee
Palate: fruit, nutmeg, raisins and chocolate
Finish: lightly sweet and spices
ABV: 46%
Cost: $50-$85 (depending on where you buy)
Last year, I had the opportunity to sample their 15-year expression and absolutely loved it. I must say, this 12-year whisky is just as remarkable. It offers a smooth, fruity, and spiced profile, with a perfect balance of raisin and chocolate notes. The level of sweetness is present throughout the sip, but it never becomes overwhelming. This is a truly fantastic whisky, and what’s even better, I think you can find it at an affordable price. If you’ve not tried this brand, it’s one to check out. The quality is superb, and I am looking forward to sampling more of their offerings.
Cheers!
