Port Askaig 17 Years

We’ve been experiencing a particularly rainy April so far, making it perfect weather for enjoying whisky. In light of this, let’s shine a spotlight on this Port Askaig 17 Years. Port Askaig is a small village situated on the northeast coast of Islay. The Port Askaig brand was established in 2009 by Elixir Distillers, an Independent bottler.

This 17 Year expression of Pork Askaig was released in 2023. This particular whisky was matured in American oak casks. It was then blended and bottled at cask strength.

Nose: fruit, citrus and smoke

Palate: smoke, fruit, earthy and hints of chocolate

Finish: smoke and herbs

ABV: 50.5%

Cost: $190-$200

This whisky is very good, particularly if you are a fan of smoky whiskies. The cask strength ABV is pleasantly robust, yet it doesn’t overpower the palate. You can expect to get those bonfire smoky notes, which are perfectly balanced with subtle notes of fruit, such as raspberries, and hints of chocolate. Personally, I thoroughly enjoy this dram, especially during rainy and chilly weather. However, I will admit that for me, the price point is a bit on the higher side. While this whisky is undeniably fantastic, I wouldn’t necessarily rush to purchase it solely due to cost. There are plenty of other affordable smoky whiskies available in that market that offer an equally exceptional experience.

Cheers!
