I am a huge fan of Compass Box, and recently I had the pleasure of tasting their Orchard House Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, and it was an immediate love. I couldn’t help but wonder why I had not tried it sooner. For those not familiar with the brand, Compass Box was established in 2000 by John Glaser. They specialize in blending and maturing whiskies from various brands to craft unique and exceptional creations. Now, let’s dive into it.
In the creation of this blend, Compass Box has skillfully combined whiskies sourced from The Clynelish, Glen Moray, Linkwood and Caol Ila distilleries, along with a distillery near the town of Aberlour and a Highland Malt Blend. It was released in 2024 and crafted by Lead Whiskymaker James Saxon.
Nose: apples, pears, citrus and tea
Palate: light sweetness, loads of fruit, vanilla and ginger
Finish: light and crisp
ABV: 46%
Cost: $30-$50
Without a doubt, this whisky was one of the best whiskies I sampled in all of 2024. I was truly amazed by its lightness, fruity notes, and overall drinkability. Its delicate sweetness and well-balanced hints of spices added an extra layer of enjoyment. It’s also worth noting, I don’t like to drink whisky during the summer, but this, this I would drink. It’s refreshing and not overly heavy, making it a perfect summer sipper. I loved it and have every intention of adding to my personal collection.
Cheers!
