Glengoyne 12-Year, 18-Year and Legacy Chapter Two Single Malt Scotch

Last year, I came across this variety pack at $20, so I couldn’t resist buying it. These packs offer a fantastic opportunity to explore different whiskies without the need to invest in full bottles. I’ve always been a strong advocate of trying before buying, especially considering how whisky prices consistently continue to rise. Now, let’s dive into this tasting experience.

12-Year

Nose: citrus, fruit and oak

Palate: light sweetness, apples and loads of citrus

Finish: baking spices, sherry and oak

Cost: $50-$60

ABV: 43%

Thoughts: I found this whisky to exhibit prominent citrus notes, with a slightly sweet profile complemented by subtle hints of baking spices and sherry undertones.

18-Year

Nose: fruit, oak and light sweetness

Palate: spices, sherry, fruit and hints of cocoa

Finish: light bite and sweetness

Cost: $150+

ABV: 43%

Thoughts: This whisky is prominently sherry forward, with an abundance of spice. It offers hints of cocoa and light touches of sweetness.

Legacy Chapter Two

Nose: oak, vanilla and fruit

Palate: spices, apples and sweetness

Finish: fruit, vanilla and oak

Cost: $80-$100

ABV: 48%

Thoughts: This one exhibits a rawer character, likely due to its higher alcohol content. It does carry a noticeable bite, with flavors of spices, vanilla and oak shining through.

Among these three options, I found the 18-year to be the better choice. However, if you’re specifically looking to try a whisky from this brand, I would recommend going for the 15-year instead. It surpasses these three options in terms of taste. While these whiskies are not bad, considering their costs, there are certainly better alternatives available out in the market.

Cheers!
