The GlenAllachie 15-Year-Old

Master Distiller Billy Walker, with over 50 years in the industry, is at the helm of this Speyside GlenAllachie Distillery after taking over the distillery in 2017. This expression, which happens to be my introduction to the distillery, was released in 2019 in addition to its core range. This one however, was finished off in sherry casks previously filled with Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry.

Nose: cinnamon, sherry, and figs
Palate: dark chocolate, fig, ginger, sherry and light sweetness from honey notes
Finish: cinnamon notes and lightly sweet
Cost: $100 (depending on where you buy)
ABV: 46%

This whiskey is exceptional, period. You get hit with so many notes that beautifully balance each other out. There is sweetness from the honey and the sherry but all that is reined in by notes of dark chocolate and cinnamon. The fig and ginger then come in to help brighten this dram up. I loved it and was completely impressed.

They have done an amazing job and I do think it’s totally worth it. With Father’s Day around the corner this would make for a great gift for those whisky loving dads.

Cheers!
