Hirsch The Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Double Oak

I recently had the chance to try Hirsch for the very first time. Their Single Barrel Double Oak is a gem! It’s a cask strength whiskey that doesn’t drink like a cask strength whiskey.

This whiskey is aged for roughly 9 years and this bottle had an ABV of 55.5%.

Nose: oak, spices and leather
Palate: vanilla, pepper and caramel
Finish: pepper and baking spices
Cost: $100+ (depending on where you buy)

This was really good! It’s very peppery so, if you don’t like that, you won’t like this. To me, the pepper notes blended very well with the baking spice notes and notes of caramel creating a well-rounded sip. For a cask strength this whiskey was also very smooth. The one con, the price. If you find it at a reasonable price, then yes, a no brainer and a must have. As for me, I simply couldn’t justify the cost, but it is a phenomenal dram.

Note: The contents on my blog are solely my opinion. To me every palate is different! Although I may or may not like a product, I always recommend for people to try it and make up their own minds.
