“Grilling meets distilling,” is the opening line on the back of the Ardbeg BizarreBQ bottle. Ardbeg’s Master Distiller Dr. Bill Lumsden teams up with Christian Stevenson (AKA DJ BBQ) to create this limited expression. Now honestly, this to me is the perfect bromance. Whisky smoke and smoked meats, might definitely, just be the perfect combo.
This cask strength whisky is matured in tree double charred oak casks: Pedro Ximénez, Cherry and BBQ Casks.
Nose: smoke, spices and maple
Palate: smoke, oil, hickory, chili, cloves, anise and pepper
Finish: smoke and sweetness
Cost: $84.99 (what we paid)
ABV: 50.9%
I’m a huge Ardbeg fan, but believe it or not, I went into this one with a bit of reservation. The last Ardbeg expression we purchased was simply OK and not at all worth what we paid for it. This one, well, it was much more affordable and 10 times better.
You get both peat smoke and BBQ smoke in this whisky. It’s filled with loads of spices, chili, and pepper. It goes down with a slight burn, but it ends in a sweet note which is light but very present.
Honestly, this expression is very well made. I love the taste, but I also love that they didn’t mark this at a ridiculous price. It’s good! Especially if you love peat smoke and BBQ. If you are a fan of those two things, I highly recommend it.
Cheers!
Note: The contents on my blog are solely my opinion. To me every palate is different! Although I may or may not like a product, I always recommend for people to try it and make up their own minds.
