M&H has quickly become one of my favorite brands. Their Pomegranate Wine Cask is still hands down one of my all-time favorite whiskies. If I find it, I simply buy it. This STR (Shaving, Toasting, and Re-charring the cask) isn’t replacing my love for the Pomegranate Cask but it was still great enough for us to add to our collection.
This was a cask hand selected by the Impex and M&H team, matured in STR wine casks. It was bottled on 02/08/2020 its bottle number is 270/280 and cask no., 2017-0198. It’s a cask strength whisky with an ABV of 59%.
Nose: pepper, oak, and chocolate
Palate: pepper, chocolate, and spices
Finish: linger pepper notes and coffee
Cost: $80.99 (what we paid)
Let me be upfront, this whisky is not for everyone. It’s strong, bold, and creamy all at the same time. The creaminess kicks off the whisky and then followed by pepper and a bite. The pepper notes are truly in the forefront. You slightly get hints of the chocolate (dark) with ending notes of strong bitter coffee. It’s the type of whisky that will give you a few (at least a few for me) chest hairs and I’m here for it.
I love cask strength whiskies and this one was no exception. We enjoyed it so much; we bought a bottle. I find they help settle my stomach on days when I tend to overeat. A thimble of this and voilà, I feel better. If you’ve never tried M&H, I highly encourage you to. You don’t need to go for this one, but they have so many amazing whiskies that are simply mind blowing.
Cheers!
