Tullamore D.E.W. is a blended Irish whiskey that doesn’t need introduction. They have become a master at blending triple distilled Irish pot still, malt and grain whiskies. Although I’ve had a chance to taste and write about their Original, Old Bonded Warehouse, Heritage Blend and Phoenix, the 15-year blend was the first bottle from the brand that we purchased and added to our collection.
The 15-year trilogy expression is matured in three different oak casks: Bourbon, Oloroso Sherry and Rum. Each cask brings a little something different creating a unique tasting experience.
Tasting Notes
Nose: oak, nuts and spice
Palate: nutty, vanilla, spices and hints of fruit
Finish: lingering notes of spices and oak
This whiskey is creamy and smooth, with a light bite at the end. It’s a complex whiskey! The spices, nuttiness, fruit and oak notes blend harmoniously. So much so, that in every sip you’ll really enjoy the quality and appreciate the craftsmanship that went into it.
I for one went in for a second dram after I finished my first. The whiskey will not completely blow you away, but it is an easy to drink whiskey that is simply unique. If you love Irish whiskies, this is a brand that doesn’t disappoint.
The bottle we purchased, we did so without having tasted it. I can now say I am glad we got it.
Cheers!
