Masterson’s 10-Year Straight Rye Whiskey is a 100% rye Canadian whiskey. Right before trying a new rye whiskey I always brace myself knowing that some rye whiskies can pack a punch. This Masterson’s 10-year, did not. On the contrary, it was surprisingly smooth and quite tasty.
Tasting Notes
Nose: oak, maple, butterscotch
Palate: spices, vanilla, wood and caramel
Finish: smooth and full of spices
It’s a complex whiskey that tastes good, but if you think that is enough for me to say it’s a must try, well you’d be wrong. Although this 10-year whiskey is tasty I do have a couple of issues with it.
- To put it simply, it’s forgettable. If someone asked me for a rye whiskey to recommend, this one would not be one I would suggest. What’s the point of saying you love a whiskey if you simply can’t remember it a day or two after you’ve tried it.
- I had a real issue with the person handling the tasting for Masterson’s. I was lucky enough to try this whiskey during a tasting. What was surprising, all the question’s I asked the young lady associated with the whiskey were answered with, I don’t know. She did offer to research the answers on her phone, but by that point I had already lost interest in her abilities as a sales person and the desire to try anymore of the Masterson’s products she was offering. This circles back to my first issue, maybe she too thought it was forgettable enough not to know the answers.
There are some good qualities to this whiskey but not enough for me to want to purchase a bottle.
Cheers!
Note: The contents on my blog are solely my opinion. To me every palate is different! Although I may or may not like a product, I always recommend for people to try it and make up their own minds.
